Getting a flat tire on your e-scooter is a common, yet annoying, situation. But don’t worry – with the right tools and a clear plan, you can be back on the road in no time. Here’s a comprehensive guide to changing your e-scooter’s tires and tubes, so you can keep enjoying your ride.
Why change tires?
A puncture usually means you need to replace the damaged tube. It's a relatively simple repair that can be done at home if you have the right tools and instructions. Here's a step-by-step guide to changing the tube and tire on your e-scooter.
Step 1: Remove the broken hose
-
Preparation: First, remove the screws that secure the brake to the wheel to release it. This will make it easier to remove the wheel from the electric scooter.
-
Remove parts: Remove any stickers and plastic caps holding the wheel in place.
-
Remove the wheel: Once all screws are loose, carefully remove the wheel from the electric scooter.
-
The brake disc: Unscrew the brake disc, which is usually secured with four or five screws, and set it aside.
-
Hose replacement: Unscrew the valve head and the nut that holds the tube. Press the valve to deflate the tube. Create a gap between the tire and the rim using a tire iron and carefully bend the tire up to remove it completely from the rim. Then remove the rim and tube from the tire.
-
Replace the hose: Replace the broken tube with a new one. You will find all tires and inner tubes in our range here.
Step 2: Reinstall the wheel
-
Install new hose: Start by inserting the valve into the rim and screwing the nut onto the valve. Push the tube into the tire and make sure the nut is properly tightened.
-
Put the tires back on.: Mount the tire on the rim. Feel free to use a tire iron and ask a friend for help if necessary. Inflate the tire to the recommended pressure – check the tire specifications for the correct bar value.
-
Reinstall brake disc: Put the brake disc and wheel back on the electric scooter. Tighten all screws that secure the wheel securely.
-
Put on plastic caps: Install the plastic cover and any decals you removed.
-
Brake adjustment: Screw the brake back on and adjust so that the brake disc is as close to the right side as possible for best performance.
